Who Club

Birdwell Wheelers

We are a cycling club first established in 1949 and based in Birdwell, an ex-coalmining village near Barnsley in the South Yorkshire area of the UK. Our membership catchment area also generally extends to cover the Sheffield and Rotherham areas, as well as some members currently living as far away as Falmouth.

From the very beginnings of the club we have always been able to meet social each week in Birdwell, and this has helped the cohesion of the club immeasurably.

We have only had three homes. The club first met in the original wooden hut that sat on the present site, before moving to the British Legion hut on Chapel Street for many years. When the owners (Wentworth Estates) sold the land it was on for housing, we were fortunate that the Birdwell Community Association had by then built their new HQ. We've been there ever since.

Virtually every Friday night, throughout the year, there is the opportunity to meet with other club-members. You can give your club-event entries to Jan, pay your Subs to Dave, volounteer for jobs, arrange to go training, have your say at the monthly meetings and eat and join in the entertainment at the occasional Social Evening. Do try to come along as often as you can from 8:15pm onwards.
